In October 2025, Hurricane Melissa struck Jamaica with devastating force. It is considered the strongest hurricane to hit the country in recorded history, both in cost and overall impact. As a Category 5 storm, it brought winds of up to 185 miles per hour and affected approximately 1.5 million people - over half the population.

Because of the storm’s severity, many people were displaced from their homes, left without power, and faced post-storm health challenges such as leptospirosis. Hundreds of schools across the nation were damaged, with some still in recovery, and a few major hospitals were damaged as well. The economic damage has also been significant, impacting infrastructure, agriculture, and tourism across the island. Because of all of this, anyone can see the need for help after such a destructive storm. 

In the midst of this need, I have the opportunity to serve with the World Race, a mission program through Adventures in Missions. Their mission is to share the love of Jesus and come alongside communities in both practical and spiritual ways.

As part of this trip, we will be working with local partners in Jamaica to support ongoing recovery efforts - helping rebuild, serve families, and encourage those who are continuing to recover from the effects of the storm. My prayer is not only to meet physical needs, but also to be a source of encouragement and compassion during a difficult season - that I would be able to show others the Hope that I have found in my Creator. 

As I continue to prepare for this trip, I ask for your support in prayer - that both my team and I would be shaped and guided by God, given wisdom in what to say and how to serve, and filled with compassion for the people we meet. And ultimately, that the hearts of those we encounter would be open to the Gospel, and that lives would be transformed through the hope that Jesus brings.
